Hey GC, yeah the beginning of Outlander was a little slow for me too, but definitely worth it; be forewarned it is an emotional rollercoaster but such an amazing story!!! I'm on the second book and I will probably get to the 3rd and than take a break. What do folks think would be the best break point to put down the series for a little while for some lighter material (and many new releases)???

Sabby--Personally, I don't think you will be able to stop after DIA. Maybe after Voyager. There is not really a good stopping place. Every book has a multitude of cliffhangers. But, I think after at least 1/2 way or so through Voyager you might be able to stop for a bit. Shoot, the books are huge. I guess you could stop for a new release any time and pick it back up. I could not have done it. I read the whole series twice in just over two months during the winter when my business is really slow.

I couldn't stop myself. read straight through to Echo and then read LJ and then started all over again. Now I am on the audiobooks in the car while I read some other series!

Hhhmmm, okay than maybe I'll try and get the rest all in audiobooks so I can switch back and forth while reading some of the new releases coming out. Haven't gotten very far in DIA so far; will keep y'all posted. smile

The first part of DIA is verra confusing. It's important, though.

Its better on subsequent reads. It is hard the 1st read because you just want to
know what happened and hopefully get to a reunion.

So I finally finished DIA star star

So a few comments, so I cant believe Jaime's reaction to 2 things: one the fact that that that dang Prince Bonny Charlie forged his signature to his alliance!!! I cant believe he didnt confront him in any way?? He not only compromised him but all his men!!! And than the scene with bloody BJR during Alex's request for him to marry Mary. I understand Jaime out of respect for Alex to keep quiet while in his presence.... but why did he walk him out with such consideration/compassion?? Just didnt seem realistic to his prior reactions to BJR.

I was also suprised that he so willingly gave Claire over to the English; even though it did make the most sense to save the rest of the men; Im suprised he was so reasonable about the situation. And than Jaime has to kill his dang foster father; I mean my goodness does he ever get lucky... ever?
And I still cant believe that Claire went through the stones even with Jaime guilting her due to the pregnancy. Or the fact that she waits 20 years to look into what really happened at Culloden???? I mean you would think even if she cared and respected Frank, that she would want/need to find out as much as possible?!?!?! Um not sure if any of this is making sense; I'm a little excited!?!?!?!

And now I understand the no stopping. Christ what a bloody cliffhanger!!!!! :x thank god I got my hands on Voyager today (just in time) from the library or I would have staked somebody!!!! Well I guess I better find out whats gonna happen..... Claire's goots some 'splainin to do!!! Twisted Evil

star DiA
What could he do about BPC, he was publically listed. And to confront BPC would mean he would be able to be a double agent while fighting with him and wouldn't be trusted.
We all think that when Jamie walked BJR back that it wasn't all that pleasant for BJR. There must have been some threats, etc. One thing about Jamie is his compassion at times. He can hold back his emotions when needed and this was one of those times that we see throughout the series. Me, I couldn't have done it. What I want to know is since Frank is a historian, did he ever see the marriage certificate and both Jamie and Claire's names as witnesses. And did the birth certificate say something prior and then change after she went through the stones to the past? And then brings me to the next thing...Frank was a Jacobite historian and he had to have dug into the past and saw Jamie. I mean he did put up the headstone, so I assume at some point he believe Claire. Does he have all of Jamie's life in his books he wrote on the period? Does he have more secrets or a journal? I understand Claire didn't want to know just in case Jamie couldn't save his men and that it hurt, but I would have had to know immediately upon returning to the future for good or bad. But if she did, what type of book would it be for us readers? Also if she had, she would have been torn on whether to go back and therefore abandon her child. And how would she live with Jamie first living in a cave and then jail? star Voyager??? star Plus then there would be no Willie. star end of spoiler star And she promised Frank she wouldn't tell Bree about Jamie while Frank still lived so Bree would think she abandoned her and Frank if she had gone back.

Let's not forget that Claire wasn't sure she could go back. When she came back to Frank, the trip through the stones almost killed her.

SPOILERS DIA

Well, where to start? I for one am dying to know how Jamie could have escorted BJR back to the English barrocks being "Red Jamie" and very obvious during a battle time and posters for his head all over the place. I now think this scene was to detail to readers how much compassion and morality that Jamie's character has. Is it unbelievable to rape victims that you could escort your assailant to safety in this circumstance? YES. Especially as a devoted Catholic male and at a time where being lesbian or gay is a criminal offense and viewed as a direct offense against God.

I did find it odd thst Claire never looked into Jamie supposed demise. However, I have finally come to terms with her trying to make a "go" of it with Frank for the safety of her child.

Not that I want to direct DG in any way, but I do hope we get a glimpse of Frank and why he stayed and/or put specific information out there for Claire to find eventually.

May 20th!

star dia
I never really even thought of that- him being obviously a Scot and with the broadsheets going to the English barracks! The broadsheets were grossly exaggerated though. I guess maybe they didn't question him because he was with BJR? I have no idea how he did it unless he was motivated by something OR he knew at this point that it was most likely a lost cause and he was going to die and wanted to insure Claire's (and I don't know if she was preggers yet) future with Frank by insuring Mary's and her baby's welfare with BJR. THEN and only then can I see a rape victim being able to do what he did. (plus he may have thrown a few punches)

Hey GC I hope you're enjoying the ride (no matter how fast), I know I did!!!! I did read the first 3 relatively fast, back to back; but am going to slow down now because there are so many books on my TBR and a few new releases I want to get to.

Oh Yes what book are you on? I'm starting to listen to the audiobook of Drums of Autumn when I can sneak in time.

heart heart VOYAGER
GC turn away bye

So I absolutely loved this book I ran through it faster than any of the other thus far; it really was so action packed and riveting. There were some parts that I questioned how much Jaimie had changed over the course of the 20 years of seperation. And there were parts that were a little tooo convenient like all three parties being shipwrecked on Hispaniola, but still loved all of it.
I loved how much info we got of Jaime's experiences during those 20 years and not so much of Claire's; I just think it would have caused uneccesary resentment (at least on my part). But I was astonished how much Jaime had to go through living in the cave, going to jail the indentured period and than of course LEGHAIR!!!!! He really has had some SHITTY luck!! And I have to say that I was quite pissed about the scene with Geneva wtf was that about??? And I still find it unbelievable that after all he's been through he would continue to put himself and those he loved in danger?? And why was Jenny so hostile to Claire even her explanation did make sense?? I can go on and on there is just so much to discuss on this book don't know where to start?? confused

:star: Voyager SPOILERS
I don't have time right now to get fully into it- but I hated Geneva my first read, but have come to appreciate it on other reads. I see it now like two extremely lonely people finding one night in each others arms before having to go back to a life neither of them wanted to be in. Plus it gave Jamie a child! I think Jamie was very threatened by her and her possibly involving his family, but at the same time I think he used it subconsciously as an excuse to go through with it. Heck the man had sex 1x with Mary, Once night with Geneva, and a very bad experience sexually with Legho while pushed by Jenny into a marriage that he knew would never work (which again subconsciously is why he married her because he didn't want to find someone who could even try to replace Claire in his heart). Anyway that is the quick version. Did you realize whose skull Claire had examined with her Dr friend Joe Abernathy? None other than Geilis's!

Sabby--This book was action packed....! There was some humor, too. I loved when Jamie fainted! Then Claire trapped in the whore house with both Ian's and Fergus showing up! It took a second reading for the humor in that to fully penetrate that fact that they were together again!

star VOYAGER star ooohh like the swirly stars

Yes there was a lot of humor in the book I did forget to mention the LOL moments; but there were for sure. Jaime's reaction was absolutely realistic and priceless; especially when he thought he might of lost it and pissed himself!!!! And the whore house with all the interuptions and thinking Claire one of the new girls was hilarious. Although it brings me to another thorn of him allowing young Ian at the age of 14 to lose his virginity; I would have at least appreciated Jaime to talk a little further with him and told him he had been a virgin at 23 when he married; and than let the boy decide.

And as for Geneva what a despicable young lady!!! Although ultimately I cant scorn her desire (obviously) just her methods. And as for Jaime, I absolutely didnt expect him to be a monk, example I didnt mind him being with Mary or even Geneva for that matter. But when she said stop several times he SHOULD have at least slowed down get her worked up whatever the case maybe rather than just going on; for that I cant forgive..... sorry!!! Mad I just thought he would be more gentlemany about it as we know him to be; even if he didnt particularly care for the girl. And why didn't he confess about Willie earlier??? ggggrrrrr Yeah there a few moments that dear Jaimie fell from Grace in my eyes in this book..... but ultimately flawed in all he's a magnificent man in all aspects!!! Which is why he'll beat out Jake!!!!! whipping lol!

I have only read the first chapter or so of Drums of Autumn. Had to take a break, but I am going to start it this weekend. Might audiobook this one, but that takes to long...

star VOYAGER star
I can't really blame Geneva if I was a sixteen year old (think that was her age) looking at Jamie everyday, and had to marry some ancient old man, I would blackmail him, seduce him, bribe him, whatever it took to get him in the sack heart

Yep, I figured it was going to be Gellis's skull or the Campbell girl - gosh, I am horrible with names.

Starting Drums only 1070 pages FFS! And I would add that I order this and the Fiery Cross on Amazon and they arrived as wee little books. The size of a regular paperback, but with the same amount of words on them as the large paperback I had for the other 3. UGHHHHHHH – my eyes might fall out before these two books are done.

Oh, but I did miss Jamie! Wink

star DRUMS star
“It’s where my sporran would be, did I have one. So long as I dinna meet with a quick fingered harlot, I’m safe.” roflmao
I was rolling at all the women eyeing Jamie. Too funny and he is what 50? Good thing he was only walking down the street in his too small breeches and not wearing his Kilt.

Hmmmm… that Stephen Bonnet sounds yummy! Tall, blond, green eyes, and a lot like Jamie. I was sorry to see him go but I bet he will be back. Hope he is a good guy. Is he going to be Brianna’s love interest on this side? I know from the back of the book she is going to come through? Does she come with Roger? I guess I don’t really want to know those answers from you guys – just letting you know all the questions running through my head.

I thought Fergus wasn’t on the shipwrecked boat with them? Did I miss something? Did they send for him like they said they would? Where is his wife (I forget her name – Legho’s daughter)?

Smoldering sandy rock sex – sweating pigs frolicking on the rocks. Oh my!

Yeah I can't particularly blame Geneva either I mean who could resist that mountain of a Scot after all. She was just such a spoiled brat!!!

star Drums of Autumn

I'm about 1/4 of the way thru (listening on audio) And Oh Yes, I was also a little confused in the beginning. But I'm now just leaning back and getting used to the non-linear style of DG's storytelling to figure all will be explained in due time. And yes he's like 50 years old and still smoldering!!!! in love
