| Dopple--I have read reviews and articles by men about 50 Shades. It is surprising what they see in the books. Mostly they see that Christian is very publicly possessive and protective.. Some really sweet stuff, like opening a door for their date/wife isn't about masculine manners, it's very protective....make sure nothing threatens her while entering/leaving a vehicle. The hand to the small of the back is a sort of "claiming".....don't even look too hard you other men....she is ALL MINE! Then, of course, they do learn a few tricks with toys. I think all men should read this book. Get a better idea of what women consider condesending behavior and acceptable and sweet protectiveness.
ETA: I left out the most important thing! Christian is always totally focused on Ana and her pleasure, except for once and I won't reveal that. Would you keep us posted on what he thinks? This is a VERY sexy story. I would love to hear his reactions.

| Dopple, now you really need to read the books. I wonder what he's laughing about. Ha, I wonder what my husband would think? I actually suggested my hubby read the books cause he wanted to know what my friends and I were talking and laughing about. He told me to pick out the good parts for him to read. I'm actually pretty curious to know what he would think. I'm still hoping he may read them because he read the first 4 or 5 Sookie books. He liked those so much, he actually took them to work with him to read on breaks. Then, he confessed that when he realized other people would see what he was reading, he would only read them when he was using the bathroom at work. Great. (this was before kindle) | |

| Kindle is a wonderful thing! Cali.....if by "good" parts, he means the sex scenes, he will be missing the best part of the book. IMO, this is a really, really good love story. | |

| sabby---Bared To You by Sylvia Day is really good. If you have read 50 Shades, which was written LONG before Bared To You, you might have to wonder if Ms. Day read 50 before writing her book. Some of the early elements are nearly identical. Sylvia Day is, however, a better writer. It's a good book. | |

| Greencat--I hope you do. I know how you read. You will probably find it fun, I think. I absolutely loved it. Not everyone does. You may be one of those. Whatever and whichever, I will love hearing your opinion. There are a LOT of people who just thouht it was......interesting. | |

| sabby---Ahhh....Even me. On a different thread, I recommended Maya Bank's Sweet series. Much tougher BDSM. I admitted that some of it was too intense for me and I skipped some parts. But, the characters are so damn interesting that I will continue the series if she writes another. I think I posted that on the m/m BDSM thread. I also recently read Strong Hand and posted about that on the same thread. You might, or might not, be interested to know that I thought the characters in Strong Hand were a lot more like Christian and Ana, even though gay characters, than any other BDSM I've read. I really liked them, too. | |

| 50 I finished 50 Shades of Gray. I honestly don't know if I will read the next two or not. I had a hard time putting the book down and read it in a day, but looking back from the perspective of "the morning after," I am not sure I want more of Ana and Christian's drama. Can't they just compromise and let her be his sub in the Red Room and his gf the rest of the time? There were a whole lot of unanswered questions - which I assume will be answered in the next two books - that I really will be disappointed if the answers aren't jaw-droppingly shocking. For example, why does he have chest issues? (I'm guessing abuse - from this crack whore mom or from Mrs. R?) What was the emergency? (I sure hope someone shot Kate... I didn't like her at all.) I sort of expect Ana to get pregnant too. It would just fit right in with the Twilight parallel. The D/s stuff didn't bother me, except the last scene. I think it bothered me more because it was forced (show me how bad it gets... really Ana?) Does she not realize he will do ANYTHING she asks him? He even told her once that she is actually the one with all the power because as soon as she says no, it's over. I liked it, but I just want to smack their heads together and tell them to get over their sh*t and just love each other in the best way they know how. P.S. I probably would have signed the contract... | |

| LOL...I have heard a few others say they would have signed the contract! I think you should read the rest of the books. If you decide not to, you can get a pretty good overview just from reading this thread. Or ask.

| Darnnit! My hubby hasn't had much time to continue reading 50 Shades. He was enjoying it, but mostly I think he found Christian's alpha behavior amusing. He's not going to feel the emotional impact of it like the rest of us - he's not wired that way. I don't want to buy it, because I'm on the fence on whether I think I'll enjoy it. But curiousity is killing me, and hubby isn't helping! I may break down. | |

| Dopple--I wish you would read it. As you know from many comments, I loved it. I think it is one of the best love stories I've read. Christian and Ana have quite a journey of discovery. So does the reader. | |

| We have completely separate amazon accounts, so my recommends don't show up when he's trying to pick out a book! Or cause him embarassment when he shops at amazon from work. Although, buying 50 Shades might stir things up for him anyway. Ha! | |

| Dopple, I just checked. It isn't lendable, so I can't lend you the book. I don't know how anyway, but I was willing to figure it out if I could. No go. Sorry. | |

| Thanks for looking into lending Shay. I tried to figure out if it was lendable, but I don't think that info is available unless you own the book! Which is totally helpful. Thanks Amazon!
I like the last bit in that article about how men are mighty quick to say they haven't read it. Snort! That's what happens when a book gets dubbed "mommy porn". Of course they aren't going to admit if they've read it! (But if their wife is ornery, she might tell her online friends. Bwaaahahahah!)

| I almost gave in and bought this audiobook. I don't know why I'm so hesitant to read it. Maybe it's too much hype? I'll read it one day. | |

| Hubby read me the contract last night! Oh my goodness. It amazes me that she was concerned about the diet and getting a weekend off while on her period, but not concerned about the freaking nipple clamps or anal fisting! (I couldn't resist a totally inappropriate emoticon. Anal fiesta! Woooo!) Christian, ahem Mr. Grey, is a dirty boy. | |

| The more a read comments about this series the more I feel I'm not missing out of anything lol.
Whit, I was going to get the audio, but after listening to a sample decided not too. I thought it was horrible, but then you might not notice the accent as much as me.

| I read them all twice! I really did love them, but the second time around the honey moon got on my nerves not sure why but I had a hard time getting into the third book. I loved the drama and the kinkyness of it all ( not sure if kinkyness is a word but oh well) I loved the emails back and forth the banter between the two of them was hilarous. that is just my pov I know some people didn't like that much but it was up there for me!!!!! | |

| I have to give E.L. James some credit - I was at Target tonight and on an end cap next to 50 Shades was the book 'Bared to You' and Anne Rice/A.N. Roqulaure's 'Beauty' series which is BDSM erotica. BDSM! Erotica! On an end cap at Target! I felt like picking up a copy of each one and asking somebody which aisle had the riding crops. But it's a small town. | |
